I’m Scott J Doughty, an Austin, TX-based graphic designer with a penchant for layout design. I’m passionate about harnessing the power of type, space, color and visual relationships to create beautiful and functional page layouts.
As a freelance graphic designer, I build on my experiences as a screen-printer, production artist, in-house designer and printer. Design is what drives and inspires me, and I am always seeking new projects and new ways to apply my craft.
My bachelor’s degree in Art History is the cornerstone of my work. As a self-taught designer, I developed the style that you see in my portfolio by burying my nose in books, blogs, manuals, tutorials, histories – anywhere that I can find to consult the experience and wisdom of others in my field (sometimes even consulting them directly!) Coupled with my love of books and stories, it’s no surprise that the work I find most rewarding has been page and book layouts and typesetting. I love complementing function with form; using something as seemingly unremarkable as the arrangement of text on a page to reinforce the content of that text.
I thrive on layout design, including book design/typesetting, ebooks, magazines, newsletters, posters, email templates and more. I have experience in branding and logo design, board game design, html email templates, paper engineering. See the full list on my services page. If you think I can help your project, or you have questions or comments for me, please contact me, I’d love to hear from you!
